Where Can I Use DVC Resale Points?

When you purchase a resale DVC membership, you're getting access to the same resort network that direct purchasers enjoy. The restrictions that do exist affect supplementary programs, not the core DVC experience. Your resale points work at every Disney Vacation Club resort without limitation, and that's what really matters for most members.
Full DVC Resort Access
Your resale points provide complete access to all DVC resorts for booking accommodations. This includes your home resort with 11-month booking priority, plus every other DVC property at the 7-month window. There's no difference between resale and direct purchase when it comes to staying at actual DVC resorts.
The current DVC portfolio includes properties at Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort, Aulani in Hawaii, and Vero Beach on Florida's Atlantic coast. Your points work at all of these destinations. Whether you want to stay steps from Magic Kingdom or wake up to ocean views in Hawaii, your resale membership gives you those options.
Home Resort Booking Advantage
Your home resort is the foundation of your membership and where you get first access to rooms. At 11 months before check-in, you can book your home resort before anyone else. This priority booking window is especially valuable for popular times like Christmas week or Food and Wine Festival.
At 7 months out, all DVC resorts open to all members equally. The home resort advantage disappears at that point, but you still have access to anything available across the entire network. This system balances home resort loyalty with network-wide flexibility.
Walt Disney World Properties
Most DVC resorts are located at Walt Disney World, giving you plenty of variety for Florida vacations. You can use your points at Beach Club Villas, BoardWalk Villas, Boulder Ridge Villas at Wilderness Lodge, Copper Creek Villas, The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian, Old Key West Resort, Polynesian Villas & Bungalows, Disney's Riviera Resort, Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.
Each property has distinct advantages. Some offer walking access to EPCOT or Magic Kingdom, others provide quieter environments with extensive recreation. Your resale points work identically at all of these resorts, so you can choose based on your vacation style and point availability.
Disneyland and Beyond
The Villas at Disneyland Hotel gives you a West Coast Disney option with walking access to both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Point requirements follow the same seasonal patterns as other DVC resorts, with higher costs during peak times and better value during slower periods.
Aulani Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii offers something completely different. This oceanfront property combines Disney service with authentic Hawaiian culture. The point requirements are typically higher than mainland resorts, but many members find the unique experience worth the cost.
Vero Beach Resort provides a quieter coastal alternative to the theme park properties. It's particularly popular with members who want beach access and a more relaxed pace. The property feels less Disney-themed than other resorts, which appeals to some members looking for variety.
Understanding the Restrictions
The limitations on resale memberships primarily affect supplementary programs, not core resort bookings. Member Getaways destinations, which include non-Disney hotels and discounted stays, may not be available depending on your contract's original purchase date. Contracts purchased directly from Disney after January 19, 2019, maintain access to these programs even when resold.
Disney Collection hotels and certain exchange programs through RCI may also be restricted for some resale contracts. These represent nice-to-have perks rather than essential membership benefits. The fundamental value of DVC, staying at Disney's deluxe villa resorts, remains completely intact with resale points.
Strategic Point Usage
Understanding point charts helps you maximize your resort options. Point requirements vary dramatically based on season, resort, and room type. A studio at Saratoga Springs during Value season might cost 11 points per night, while a Grand Villa at Bay Lake Tower during Magic season could cost 95 points per night.
Studios require the fewest points and work well for couples or small families. One-bedroom villas provide more space and full kitchens. Two-bedroom villas accommodate larger groups but consume significantly more points. Some resorts also offer three-bedroom Grand Villas, though these require substantial point allocations.
Seasonal point variations create opportunities for strategic booking. Adventure season (typically late January through early March and mid-April through mid-May) often provides excellent value, while Holiday and Magic seasons command premium point costs.
Planning Across the Network
Many members develop patterns of rotating among different DVC resorts to experience various locations and amenities. You might spend one year at Polynesian Villas for monorail access to Magic Kingdom, the next at Beach Club for EPCOT proximity, and then try Aulani for a completely different vacation experience.
The booking windows work in your favor for this approach. If your home resort doesn't have availability for your preferred dates, you often find options at other properties when the 7-month window opens. The network effect means you're rarely stuck without vacation options.
We've helped hundreds of families through the resale process, and the vast majority use their points exactly as they'd hoped when they purchased. The key is understanding your own vacation patterns and choosing a home resort that aligns with where you want to stay most often. The rest of the network provides flexibility for when you want something different.
For families considering DVC resale, these usage options represent the core value of membership. While some supplementary programs may be restricted, your access to Disney's premier vacation accommodations remains complete. That's what drives satisfaction for most DVC members year after year.
