Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa: Quick Facts
Aulani Annual Dues (2026)
Aulani carries the highest per-point dues in the DVC system, which reflects the cost of operating a resort in Hawaii. Property taxes, insurance, staffing, and import costs for supplies all run higher on Oahu than they do in Central Florida. The upside is that these higher dues contribute to a lower resale price per point, so the total cost of ownership often balances out over time. Dues are billed once per year in January.
| Contract Size | Per-Point Dues | Annual Total |
|---|---|---|
| 100 Points | $10.96 | $1,096 |
| 150 Points | $10.96 | $1,644 |
| 200 Points | $10.96 | $2,192 |
Location & Transportation
Aulani sits on 21 oceanfront acres in the Ko Olina resort community on Oahu's leeward (western) coast. Ko Olina is known for its four protected man-made lagoons that create calm, sandy-bottom swimming areas that are ideal for families with young children. The resort faces one of these lagoons, and guests also have access to the natural beach that stretches between them.
Getting to Aulani: The resort is about 30 minutes west of Honolulu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) by car. Most guests rent a car or book a shuttle transfer. Ride-share services operate throughout Oahu and are another convenient option. The drive from Waikiki to Aulani is approximately 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic on the H-1 freeway.
Getting around Oahu: A rental car is strongly recommended. While Aulani is a self-contained resort with plenty to do on property, many families want to explore the North Shore (about 1 hour drive), visit Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial (25 minutes), hike Diamond Head (45 minutes), or spend a day in Waikiki (40 minutes). The resort does offer a limited shuttle to select Ko Olina shops and restaurants.
Important note: Aulani is not connected to any Disney theme park. It is a standalone beach resort. If your primary goal is visiting Disney parks, you will want to look at resorts in Florida or California. But if you want a Hawaiian beach vacation with Disney's level of service and theming, Aulani delivers that experience in a way no other resort in Hawaii can match.
Aulani DVC Room Types
Aulani's DVC villas are located in the Ewa Tower of the resort. Every villa includes a kitchenette or full kitchen, a private lanai (balcony), and Hawaiian-inspired decor with natural wood accents and earth-tone fabrics. View categories include Standard (parking, landscaping), Island Gardens View, Poolside Gardens View, and Ocean View.
| Room Type | Sleeps | Size (sq ft) | Points/Night (Avg) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deluxe Studio | 4 | 362 | 14-33 |
| One-Bedroom Villa | 4-5 | 710 | 25-56 |
| Two-Bedroom Villa | 8-9 | 1,100 | 35-80 |
| Grand Villa (3BR) | 12 | 1,842 | 55-120 |
The one-bedroom and two-bedroom villas include a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, a dining area, an in-unit washer and dryer, and a separate living space. The Grand Villa is a stunning three-bedroom suite with ocean views, a full kitchen, and a large dining table that seats 8. Aulani's rooms tend to require more points per night than comparable Florida DVC resorts, which reflects the Hawaii location premium.

Recreation & Amenities at Aulani
Aulani packs more activities per square foot than any other DVC resort. The Hawaiian setting allows for outdoor recreation year-round, and Disney's programming team runs cultural experiences you will not find at any other resort in the state.
Waikolohe Pool & Water Features
The Waikolohe Pool is the centerpiece of Aulani's outdoor experience. It is a multi-level, zero-entry pool built into a volcanic rock landscape with two waterslides, a lazy river (the Waikolohe Stream) that winds through gardens and caves, a whirlpool spa tucked into a private grotto, and an interactive splash zone for toddlers. The pool area also includes the Wailana Pool, which is a quieter adults-preferred pool with ocean views and poolside food and beverage service.
Rainbow Reef
Rainbow Reef is Aulani's private saltwater snorkeling lagoon stocked with over 1,000 tropical fish representing dozens of Hawaiian reef species. It is the only resort snorkeling experience of its kind in Hawaii. Kids and adults can swim with real tropical fish in a safe, controlled environment. There is a small daily fee ($25 per person, complimentary for DVC guests during certain promotions), and snorkel equipment is provided. The lagoon is about 4 feet deep, making it accessible for children 5 and older.
Beach & Ocean Activities
The resort sits beside Ko Olina Lagoon 4, a calm, sandy-bottom cove that is perfect for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking. The beach team offers complimentary bodyboards, snorkel gear, and beach chairs. You can also rent stand-up paddleboards and kayaks. Outrigger canoe excursions are available through the resort and are a great way to experience traditional Hawaiian ocean culture with your family.
Hawaiian Cultural Experiences
Aulani offers daily cultural activities led by local Hawaiian cultural practitioners. These include lei-making workshops, ukulele lessons, hula dancing classes, Hawaiian quilt-making demonstrations, and storytelling sessions with Uncle and Aunty (Hawaiian cultural hosts). The Starlit Hui is a nightly outdoor show featuring Hawaiian music, hula, and fire-knife dancing that is complimentary for resort guests. Disney characters also make appearances throughout the resort in Hawaiian attire.
Dining at Aulani
'AMA'AMA is Aulani's signature oceanfront restaurant serving fresh Hawaiian seafood with locally sourced ingredients. The sunset views from the outdoor terrace are spectacular. Makahiki is a character breakfast restaurant where families can meet Mickey, Minnie, and other characters in Hawaiian outfits while enjoying a buffet featuring local favorites like loco moco and Hawaiian sweet bread French toast. Off the Hook is a casual lounge near the pool with cocktails, poke bowls, and small plates. The Olelo Room serves craft cocktails and appetizers in the evening. The Little Opihi's grab-and-go counter offers quick meals, shave ice, and snacks throughout the day.
Laniwai Spa
Laniwai is a full-service spa and fitness center on the resort grounds. Treatments incorporate Hawaiian healing traditions and locally sourced ingredients like kukui nut oil, sea salt, and volcanic clay. The outdoor hydrotherapy garden includes six pools at different temperatures. There is also a teen spa and a couples treatment suite.
Frequently Asked Questions: Aulani DVC
Is Aulani worth buying as a DVC resale?
Aulani can be a great value if you plan to visit Hawaii regularly. The resale price per point is the lowest in the DVC system, typically $90 to $115. While the annual dues are higher than Florida resorts at $10.96 per point, the total cost of ownership (purchase price plus annual dues) often works out similarly to mid-range Florida resorts over a 10-year period. A comparable ocean-view hotel room in Ko Olina runs $500 to $800 per night, so DVC members save significantly on each trip.
Can I use Aulani points at Walt Disney World?
Yes. Aulani is an unrestricted resort, which means resale buyers can book at any of the 16 DVC properties worldwide at the 7-month booking window. Many owners buy Aulani specifically because of the lower per-point price and then split their points between Hawaii trips and Florida trips. You get your 11-month home resort advantage at Aulani and full 7-month access everywhere else.
When does the Aulani DVC contract expire?
Aulani contracts expire on January 31, 2062, giving buyers over 36 years of remaining ownership as of 2026. That is one of the longer remaining terms in the DVC system and adds to the long-term value of an Aulani resale purchase.
Why are Aulani annual dues so high?
Hawaii has higher operating costs across the board. Property taxes, insurance rates, employee wages, and the cost of importing supplies all contribute to Aulani's $10.96 per-point dues. The resort also maintains extensive amenities like Rainbow Reef (the saltwater snorkeling lagoon), multiple restaurant venues, and a full Hawaiian cultural programming staff. While the dues are the highest in DVC, the lower resale price per point partially offsets this cost.
What is Rainbow Reef at Aulani?
Rainbow Reef is a private saltwater snorkeling lagoon located on the resort grounds. It is stocked with over 1,000 tropical fish from Hawaiian reef species and is about 4 feet deep, making it accessible for children ages 5 and up. Snorkel equipment is provided. It is the only resort-based snorkeling lagoon of its kind in Hawaii, and it gives families a safe introduction to snorkeling before venturing into the open ocean.
Do I need a rental car at Aulani?
A rental car is strongly recommended. The resort itself has plenty of activities to fill several days, but most families want to explore Oahu during their stay. Popular excursions include the North Shore beaches (1 hour drive), Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial (25 minutes), Diamond Head hike (45 minutes), and Waikiki Beach (40 minutes). The resort offers a limited shuttle to nearby Ko Olina shops, but public transportation to major attractions is not practical.
What dining options are available at Aulani?
'AMA'AMA is the signature oceanfront restaurant with fresh Hawaiian seafood and sunset views. Makahiki is the character breakfast venue where you can meet Disney characters in Hawaiian attire. Off the Hook serves poolside cocktails and poke bowls. The Olelo Room has craft cocktails and small plates in the evening. Little Opihi's is a grab-and-go counter for quick meals and shave ice. The Ka'Wa'a Luau (seasonal) offers a traditional Hawaiian feast with live entertainment on the resort grounds.
How many points do I need for a week at Aulani?
A standard-view studio during the lowest season requires about 98 to 105 points per week. During peak season (summer and holidays), the same studio needs 180 to 230 points per week. An ocean-view one-bedroom in the shoulder season runs roughly 250 to 300 points for a week. Point requirements at Aulani tend to be higher than Florida DVC resorts because of the Hawaii location premium.
What is the best time of year to visit Aulani?
Hawaii has great weather year-round, but the best value for DVC points is during the shoulder seasons: mid-January through March and September through mid-December. These periods offer lower point requirements, smaller crowds, and comfortable temperatures in the 75 to 85 degree range. Summer and the Christmas/New Year holiday window are peak periods with the highest point costs and fullest resort occupancy.
Is Aulani a restricted or unrestricted DVC resort?
Aulani is an unrestricted DVC resort. Resale buyers get full booking privileges at all 16 DVC properties worldwide at the 7-month window, plus the 11-month home resort advantage at Aulani itself. This makes Aulani one of the most flexible resale purchases available, especially given its lower per-point price. Unrestricted status is a major advantage compared to newer restricted resorts like Riviera, where resale owners can only book at their home resort.
Why Buy Aulani DVC Resale
Aulani occupies a unique place in the DVC lineup as the only Disney Vacation Club resort in Hawaii. For families who want to make Hawaii a regular part of their vacation rotation, buying Aulani on resale is one of the smartest moves you can make. Hotel rooms in Ko Olina typically run $500 to $800 per night for an ocean-view room. With a DVC ownership, your per-night cost drops dramatically once you factor the purchase price and annual dues across multiple years of visits.
The resale market for Aulani offers the lowest per-point prices in the DVC system. Contracts typically trade between $90 and $115 per point, which means a 150-point contract costs roughly $13,500 to $17,250 before closing costs. Compare that to Disney's direct pricing, which runs significantly higher, and the savings become clear. Because Aulani is unrestricted, resale buyers keep full booking access at every DVC resort worldwide.
The higher annual dues ($10.96 per point, or $1,644 per year for 150 points) are the main consideration. But when you compare the total annual cost of a DVC stay to booking the same room through a hotel reservation site, DVC ownership still comes out ahead, usually by 40% to 60% per night. And unlike a hotel stay, your DVC points give you a villa with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and separate living spaces.
Another strategy many owners use is to buy Aulani as an affordable entry point into the DVC system, then use their points at Florida resorts most years and save their Aulani 11-month advantage for the occasional Hawaii trip. This works particularly well because Aulani availability tends to be good at the 11-month window, whereas trying to book Aulani at the 7-month window with points from another resort can be challenging during summer and holidays.
The 2062 expiration date provides over 36 years of remaining use, which is one of the longest terms available on the resale market. Aulani contracts also tend to hold their value well on resale because of the unique Hawaii location and the strong demand from buyers who want to make Hawaiian vacations a regular part of their lives.
