Point Transfer Fees

Posted On September 6, 2025

Understand how DVC point transfers work, associated costs, and when they make the most sense for members.

Transferring Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points is a lesser-known but valuable tool for maximizing flexibility in vacation planning. Whether you're helping a friend book a dream trip or need a few extra points for your own stay, understanding how point transfer fees work can help you make informed decisions.

What Is a DVC Point Transfer?

A point transfer allows a DVC member to move their Vacation Points from their account to another DVC member’s account. This transaction must be done through Member Services, and each member can only complete one transfer per Use Year, either as the sender or receiver.

Transfers are useful when you’re short on points and don’t want to borrow from a future Use Year or rent additional points. They’re also helpful when coordinating group trips or gifting a stay to someone else.

How Much Are the Point Transfer Fees?

The good news is that DVC does not charge a fee for point transfers when done directly between members through Member Services. However, if you're working with a third-party broker or using a rental site, fees may apply.

If you’re planning to buy DVC points or work through a DVC resale listing, it’s a good idea to ask the broker or seller about potential fees related to point transfers, especially if the points are being transferred as part of a sale.

Important Rules and Restrictions

While the process sounds simple, it comes with rules:

  • You may transfer or receive points only once per Use Year.

  • Transferred points retain their original Use Year and Home Resort status.

  • Transferred points cannot be banked once moved.

  • Points must be used within their Use Year unless they were already banked before the transfer.

You can view your transferred points in your online account, but note that they may take a few days to appear after the transfer is completed.

When Does Transferring Make Sense?

DVC point transfers are a great option when:

  • You need a small number of points to complete a reservation.

  • You're helping a friend or family member book a stay.

  • You’re combining points from multiple contracts for a single booking.

  • You’re buying a DVC contract and want to start using points right away.

Transferring Points During a Resale Purchase

When buying resale, you may find contracts that include banked points or transferred points from the seller. Always ask whether the points included are original or transferred, as this can affect banking rules.

Working with a licensed broker like DVC Sales ensures you fully understand what you're getting in the transaction. For more transparency, check out their DVC Resale Value Calculator and Resale Restrictions guides.
