Some believe renting DVC points is the best way to save money while staying at a DVC resort during your next Disney vacation. If you are considering renting Disney Vacation Club points, it's important to understand every aspect of the rental process. Below, we discuss the pros and cons of renting DVC points.

How does Disney Vacation Club Work?

Disney Vacation Club is a vacation ownership program where you are allotted a certain amount of DVC points every year to use at select resorts across Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and vacation destinations in Hawaii, Florida, and South Carolina. Your point allotment renews every year until your DVC contract expires. If you do not use all of your DVC points in one year, they will expire if you don't bank them for a future year. Sometimes, members still have points left over in a year, even after enjoying a vacation and banking other points for the future. In this circumstance, some owners may be willing to rent out their unused points to guests wishing to stay at a DVC resort.

How to Rent DVC Points

For renting DVC Points, consider the following two options:

Direct Renting DVC Points

Find a trustworthy DVC owner and ask him to give up their DVC points in a way that they won't take your money and run. Guests usually connect with direct renters through social media and online forums.

Point Broker

The second option is to go through any point broker specializing in renting DVC points. This option can be more involved than contacting a direct owner, but it could offer more security for your purchase and flexibility with payment options and discounts.

Pros and Cons of Renting DVC Points

The Bottom Line

Many people enjoy staying at a DVC resort for less by renting DVC points. However, while it may seem easy to rent DVC points, it comes with a fair amount of risk. Instead of risking your money with a third-party site or giving random strangers on the internet hundreds of dollars in hopes they'll book a room for you, we suggest buying a DVC resale contract with DVC Sales. You'll save 20 - 50% off direct Disney pricing while enjoying many of the benefits of becoming a DVC member. For more information, our  DVC Sales guides are here to assist you.
